Visit of Minister for Energy and Green Transition to ERERA Head Office

On Tuesday July 22, 2025, the Honourable Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor (MP), paid an official visit to the ECOWAS Regional Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERERA) Head Office in Accra, Ghana. During this official visit, the Minister reaffirmed his commitment to regional institutions, emphasizing the need to strengthen cooperation on energy market development and accelerate the green transition across the ECOWAS region.

The Minister was received by the Chairman of ERERA, Ing. Kocou Laurent R. Tossou, alongside Council Member, and senior staff of the institution. In his welcome remarks, the Chairman of ERERA expressed his sincere appreciation for the Minister’s visit, underscoring its strategic significance in deepening collaboration between national energy authorities and ERERA. He emphasized that this engagement represents a pivotal step toward the establishment of a fully functional regional electricity market within the ECOWAS framework..

During the visit, the Minister was briefed on ERERA’s mandate, its achievements, and ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing cross-border electricity trade, regulatory harmonisation, and support for renewable energy integration in the regional market. The presentation highlighted ERERA’s role in creating an enabling environment for private sector participation in the electricity sector, ensuring affordability, sustainability, and security of supply across the region.

The Minister commended ERERA for its critical role in the regional energy landscape and reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting regional initiatives that align with the objectives of the ECOWAS Green Transition Strategy. He emphasised the importance of effective regulation and stakeholder collaboration in accelerating the energy transition while ensuring energy security for member states.

The visit concluded with a group photograph. Both parties expressed readiness to deepen collaboration to advance regional energy market integration and improved tariff for the region.
