Cameroonian Multi-Institutional Delegation Joint Study Visit to ERERA to Deepen Regional Electricity Market Cooperation, April 6, 2026
The ECOWAS Regional Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERERA) welcomed a high-level joint delegation from the Republic of Cameroon on 6 April 2026 for a study visit aimed at strengthening cooperation and enhancing knowledge exchange on the governance and operation of the regional electricity market.
The visiting delegation comprised representatives of Ministry of Water and Energy, Ministry of Economy, Planning and Territorial Development, Electricity Sector Regulatory Agency (ARSEL), National Electricity Transport Company (SONATREL) and Power Pool of Central Africa (PEAC)
The mission was organized to gain deeper insight into ERERA’s mandate and experience in overseeing and facilitating the sub-regional electricity market, particularly in the context of the planned electricity interconnection between Cameroon and Chad.
During the visit, discussions focused on regional market governance frameworks, cross-border electricity trade mechanisms, regulatory harmonisation, market participation procedures, and institutional arrangements that support reliable and transparent regional power exchanges.
ERERA highlighted the progress achieved within the ECOWAS Regional Electricity Market, including the development of common regulatory instruments, promotion of fair access to transmission infrastructure, and collaboration among Member States to enhance regional energy security and integration.
The Cameroonian delegation noted that the visit formed part of ongoing national preparations for future cross-border market integration and would provide valuable lessons for the Cameroon–Chad interconnection project.
Both parties expressed confidence that the engagement would contribute to stronger institutional cooperation, foster the exchange of experiences and best practices, and support broader regional efforts toward integrated and sustainable electricity markets in Africa.
ERERA reaffirmed its commitment to promoting dialogue, technical cooperation, and knowledge sharing with sister institutions across the continent in pursuit of efficient, competitive, and interconnected regional electricity systems.
