Third ERERA Forum

2nd ERERA FORUM

ERERA will organize the second Regional Forum on the regulation of the electricity sector from November 22nd to 23rd  at Belle Cote Hotel in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.

This event is to be co-chaired by His Excellency Adama TOUNGARA, Minister of Mines, Petrol and Energy of Côte d’Ivoire and His Excellency James Victor GBEHO, President of ECOWAS Commission. Its main objectives are:

Updating the roadmap of ERERA

  • Adoption of the Regulation on the Consultative Committees
  • Installation of ERERA’s Regulators and Operators committees
  • Sharing of conclusions and recommendations of the update of the ECOWAS revised Master Plan for the generation and transmission of electricity

The Forum brings together the actors in the electricity sector of the member states of ECOWAS, namely: the representatives of the Ministries in charge of energy, the national regulatory authorities, the electricity utilities, allied regional and international institutions and development partners.

ERERA-WAGPA-NARUC Workshop

The workshop was aimed at supporting the institutional and capacity development of West African energy regulators. Topics treated included review of basic regulatory principles, cost of capital, risk assessment, data collection and dissemination of information, asset depreciation and uniform system of accounts.

The workshop brought together several national regulatory bodies and Ministries in charge of energy of ECOWAS Member States.

Assistance to GHANA-BURKINA FASO interconnection project

The study aims at giving advice and recommendations on each item to be included in the agreement for improving the current contractual framework. During the meeting the Consultant presented his methodology for the study which was agreed upon by all parties present. The commercial framework would essentially be based on three pillars:

  • expression of the parties’ will, interests and abilities in the realisation of the project
  • Compliance with the legal environment (Ghana, Burkina Faso, WAPP) and its foreseeable developments
  • The physical infrastructure of the project.
