ERERA Receives ECOWAS Staff Pension Implementation Team in Accra

ERERA Chairman, Professor Honoré Bogler, has expressed delight over the introduction of an ECOWAS Staff Pension Fund, a scheme which he said will greatly benefit staff of ERERA.

Professor Bogler was speaking during the reception of the ECOWAS Commissioner for Administration and Conference, Mr. Stephen Nartey who was accompanied by Mrs. Obiageli Ray-Oleru of the ECOWAS Pensions Desk on Friday, 9th September 2016 in Accra, Ghana.

Commissioner Nartey announced that the ECOWAS Pension Fund is operational and that its Board is working to ensure dynamic and efficient management of retirees. He explained that the main objective of the mission to all ECOWAS institutions is to familiarize ECOWAS staff with the Pension Fund and its associated issues.

In his presentation, Commissioner Nartey stated that the ECOWAS Staff Regulations provide for the creation of the Staff Pensions Fund. He said that the ECOWAS Council of Ministers, in December 2011 decided to establish the scheme with effect from 1st January 2012, increase staff retirement age from 60 to 62 years, as well as set up a Board comprising Institutions, staff and retirees.

ECOWAS President Visits ERERA Headquarters

President of the ECOWAS Commission, Marcel Alain de Souza, visited the offices of the ECOWAS Regional Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERERA), on 11th August 2016 in Accra, Ghana.

It was President de Souza’s first visit to ERERA since he assumed duty in April 2016.  He was accompanied by the Director of Political Affairs, Dr. Remi Ajibewa.

He made the visit on the sidelines of the tripartite United Nations, African Union and ECOWAS high-level mission to Ghana on the 2016 elections.

During the visit, President de Souza described ERERA as an important institution of ECOWAS, tasked with contributing to finding solutions to the energy crisis in West Africa.

ERERA’s Chairman Meets with Energy Commission’s Leaders

The new Chairman of the Regulatory Council of the ECOWAS Regional Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERERA), Professor Honoré Bogler, paid a courtesy call on the Board Chairman of the Energy Commission of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Ampofo and the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Mr. Michael Opam, on Wednesday, 20th April 2016 in Accra, Ghana.

Professor Bogler said the visit was to familiarize himself with the leadership of the Energy Commission and to express his appreciation over the Commission’s hospitality, in particular by playing host to ERERA in Accra.

Welcoming the delegation, the Board Chairman assured Professor Bogler of the continued support of the Energy Commission at all times. “It will be our pride to know that we have contributed to the success of ERERA”, he said.

Professor Honoré Bogler is Now ERERA’s New Chairman

Newly appointed Chairman of the Regulatory Council of the ECOWAS Regional Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERERA), Professor Honoré Bogler assumed duty on Friday, 15th April 2016 at the ERERA Headquarters in Accra, Ghana.

Professor Bogler received the mantle of leadership from the out-going Acting Chairperson of the institution, Mrs. Ifey Ikeonu, at a ceremony which was attended by the ECOWAS Commissioner for Energy and Mines, Mr. Morlaye Bangoura and the ECOWAS Commissioner for Human Resources Management, Mr. João José Huco Monteiro, and Regulatory Council Member, Mr. Alagi Gaye, as well as ERERA staff members.

He commended his predecessor and the two Regulatory Council Members for their ability to make ERERA functional.

In her remarks, Mrs. Ikeonu noted the challenges of getting ERERA operational, and the strides it has so far made, attributing it to the “human spirit” within ERERA. She lauded ERERA’s “very dedicated team”, and urged the staff to “continue to do all you can”, especially as the institution prepares to launch the first phase of the regional power market later in the year.
